Introduction

A Spiegelei, or fried egg, is a classic and simple dish enjoyed in many households. Whether served for breakfast, lunch, or as a topping for other meals, a perfectly cooked Spiegelei is both delicious and versatile. Follow these easy steps to prepare a traditional Spiegelei.

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh egg

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the Pan Place a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add the butter or oil. Allow it to melt and heat up, but do not let it brown.

  2. Crack the Egg Carefully crack the egg into a small bowl to avoid shell fragments, then gently slide the egg into the pan.

  3. Cook the Egg Let the egg cook undisturbed until the white is set but the yolk remains runny, about 2–3 minutes. For a firmer yolk, cover the pan with a lid for an additional minute.

  4. Season and Serve Sprinkle the egg with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately, either on its own or as a topping for bread, salads, or other dishes.

Tips

  • For a crispier edge, increase the heat slightly during cooking.

  • Add herbs or spices for extra flavor.
